I have a soft spot for this name. I think it can stand on its own - it sounds more mature than Dolly or Dotty, and those were full names at one point. I think anything could be standalone, even if its cutesy. A lot of vintage names for women were just diminutives like Dotty, Dolly, Molly, Sally or Betty. One day Ellie might be seen the same way. I look forward to finding out if Ellie will become a "grandma" name.
