Your Favourite Flower
What is your favourite flower and would you use it (or it’s latin name) for your son or daughter? If not, which flower name could you see yourself using and why? Do you think you have to love the name and the flower in order to use the name?

My favorite flower has always been a daisy, a white daisy. Funny thing, I used to DREAM of having a daughter called Daisy Alice. I loved the name so much that I named my white lab (when I was 5 years old) Daisy. As for nowadays? To be honest, I still find the name Daisy very pretty, so sure I would!
I would use the name Lily
My favourites are forget-me-nots, hence Myosotis haha. I wouldn't use it on a child, even if it was more usable, it's too much my username/online persona now. I also love African violets, but I'm not a huge fan of Violet. I do like Viola (but as vee-OH-luh) and Violetta.
I definitely don't think you have to love a flower to use it as a name. I love Lavender and Marigold, but they're not my favourites.

I like Magnolia's. I think the name could work for a child. NN Maggie.
My cousin has a younger daughter named Magnolia and sometimes she goes by Maggie! :D
My favourite flower is Frangipani / Plumeria. I wouldn’t use it to name a child.
I could use Marigold or Jasmine as first names for a girl and Linnea as a middle name for a girl. Not sure about a boy, maybe Gentian. I also like someone else’s suggestion of Rose - but I’d only use it as a nickname for Ambrose.

My favorite flower are probably roses, but I think I would only use Rose as a middle name.
Tulip, and no, I would not use it as a name. I am not Tiny Tim.
I don't think I would use any flower names. I like them, but not enough to actually use them.

One of my favourite flowers is Dahlia. They come in so many varieties and colours. Some are nature's perfection. Personally, I wouldn't choose Dahlia for a girl because of pronunciation issues. There are three ways to say the flower and I pronounce it "DAYL-yuh" which I believe is the British way. There is also "DAL-yuh" and "DAHL-yuh".
I wouldn't hesitate to name a girl another one of my favourite flowers and that is Marigold. They are yellow and orange puff balls of happiness.

I've always heard it pronounced DAHL-ih-AH, three syllable not two (from UK)
I personally pronounce it DAHL-ya.
My favorite flower is either the Iris or the Primrose. I’d use Iris, but probably not Primrose. I think it’d be hard to use the name
If you hated the flower.

My favourite flower is the dog's eye daisy, also known as the marguerite. I would never use Daisy as a name because it's too nickname-y and childish for my taste. I'm not opposed to Marguerite, but only as a middle name. So I'd go with either Calanthe Marguerite, Chrysanthe Marguerite, or Iolanthe Marguerite.
If I had to pick one it'd be Chrysanthe Marguerite.
Masculine: Kauri Heath
Unisex: Cedar Kaede

I used to know someone who went by Daisy, then years later found out her name was Marguerite!
Wisteria
I kinda like it, but no I wouldn't use it on my child
Violet is a name I'd like to use if it wasn't so popular

I have sooo many favourites! Portulacas, alstroemeria, peonies, gladiolus, lisianthus, and more recently, Canna lilies. None of them are very namey.... Lisiantha would be pretty, but what a mouthful. Canna is short and sweet, but I don't think it would really work.
I would name a kid Rosemary or Basil, those are my favourite herbs.
I love the names Ivy, Violet and Fern but I don't care too much about the actual plants. They are nice but not great favourites. I also love the names Begonia, Dahlia, Azalea and Zinnia and I don't have strong feelings about those flowers. I would still use them though!

My favourite flower is Zantedeschia ethiopica, common names are Calla or Kalla & Calla lilies.
Personally, Calla or Kalla isn't my cup of tea, but can see it, in generally, on other girls.
Prefer Callisto or Calliope though.
Would use Iris, Soley/Solja-buttercup flower in Icelandic and Faroese & my GP Edelweiß, the little white alpine flower from Germany.

I'm aware I'm boring but my favorite flowers are roses. I think Rose is an excellent name, but here's where I get controversial - I could see Rose working as a male name too.
Probably wouldn't name my child Rose regardless of gender though. I think it's too overused.

My favourite flower is the dicentra (or bleeding heart), which is also coined as a very rare name, but I wouldn't use it for being too whimsical, no matter the context.
This is the flower in question:
Instead, I would use Iris in a heartbeat - it has been in my top 10 for a while and it's not too popular. There's also the Greek goddess.

I love that you added a picture! They are beautiful and so unusual. Dicentra sounds like the name a Roman Goddess, it’s actually quite pretty.
Do you love the iris flower as well?

I agree - it sounds like it belongs in Roman mythology.
The iris flower is a former favourite, and now I solely like it, but it's still better than other flowers and flower names.

I have a vase full of irises in front of me as I write this :) They remind me of the Vincent van Gogh painting (although mine are purple)
Lovely painting! This is the first time I see it. I'm used to Van Gogh's Sunflowers series.
I think Lily is a name (and flower) that is loved by most. Pretty choice.
My favourite flowers are Common Stocks sometimes known as Brompton Stocks and the Latin name is Matthiola Incana. I wouldn’t be brave enough to name a child Matthiola. I would be more likely to name a daughter Bryony as I feel it’s an underused flower name.
I often buy (lilac) Brompton Stocks, beautiful flowers with a lovely fragrance. I wouldn’t use Matthiola either, although Mattie could be a cute nickname. Bryony is a good choice!
