My friend Astrid's daughter, also named Astrid, is often called "Marie" because they have the same first name but different middle names.

We live in a community where it isn't uncommon to go by one's middle name as a cultural practice. Though it's usually a practice more common for men than women. Of the boys I went to school with growing up maybe 7 or 8 of them used their middle name? Something like that. If it's a girl that uses the middle name often it is because her first name is "Ann" or "Mary" after a grandma and the objective is to distinct them.
