Katrina or Lyra for a girl?

Replies

To me, they have such strong associations - the hurricane, the character in His Dark Materials - and neither are positive associations for me.Forced to choose, I'd go with Katrina.
Katrina
I wish I could like Lyra because I love the lyre and its associations (lyric poetry etc.), but I find the name sonically grating. I guess I prefer Katrina, then.
Katrina, hands down. I like it anyway. Lyra I never know how to pronounce it and both options are not appealing. LY-ra sounds too much like liar, and Leer-a sounds like a leer.
I only like Lyra when it's pronounced Lee-rah. If it's LAI-rah, then Katrina.
Katrina, most definitely!
LyraKatrina sounds tired and nasally. Karina on the other hand...
Lyra is a one-character name, brilliant in the first three Dark Materials books and hopeless in the only two Secret Commonwealth books to have appeared so far - I think Pullman has given up, and I actually hope he has. Katrina has a good, long history and makes a pleasant change from all the Kate and Catherine people one meets every day. Katrina for me!
Lyra, definitely.
I prefer Katrina.
