I knew a Skye that never suited her name. For a while, before I got to know her better, I assumed she had chosen it for herself as an adult. Her last name was also very prettily unexpected; together the name sounded like something a whimsical teen would wish to be called. It would have fit right in the Hunger Games universe.

I don't suit my name, honestly, though I picked it myself. It's too young for me. I didn't suit my birth name either, however! If I had to pick a name for myself based on how I look on the outside, I would probably end up with something like.... Kathleen, or Alison maybe.

I worked with a young person named Nicole for many years, but I always had to mentally translate their name to Nicole from Julie. I don't know why, but my brain really wanted them to be named Julie. Eventually they came out as nonbinary and changed their name to Nett. They didn't seem like a Julie to me after they came out.

I would never rename someone in my head. Someone’s name is their identity, and it’s not for me to decide what their identity is.

I was actually just talking with my friend, Mary, about how she doesn't look like a Mary at all. She looks like an Anna, in my opinion, and a Caroline, in hers. I don't really know how to describe it, but she looked like a Mary in old photos and now looks completely different.

I've never renamed a real person in my head. My connection to reality would not permit that; I could actually start calling them that if I'm not careful. XD Fictional characters are fair game, though. If I have no problem with a character, I only call them their name. But Angelica from "Rugrats", I nicknamed Demonica. Nothing "angelic" about her.

I met a Chastity who was unfriendly. Years later, she carries herself very differently. She seems much smarter, more driven and even like she could be nice. I do think Chaz suits her better, though. Thats what her friends called her back in elementary. Chaz sounds casual and approachable. She wears slides, basketball shorts, athletic stuff that looks comfortable. Any unisex name would probably suit her now: Jordan, Jamie, Andy, or Kelly.

I also knew a boy called Nicholas. To me, Nicholas sounds really white and uppity - I still like the name, don't get me wrong. But the Nicholas that I met was really goofy, inappropriate, and of course, not white. He was fun and if I knew him better, I probably would've called him Nick or Nicky because they suited him more.

William also sounds kind of... upper class, royal and snobbish, but I've met two Williams who 1) like to draw 2) are really nice 3) and need time to warm up to people. Will would've been better for them... but I might be biased because I like Will and Liam a lot more than William, haha.

I've known two Mackenzies. My friend with the name only goes by Mack. Despite being a surname that was originally just for boys, Mackenzie is surprisingly girly to me. It sounds cheerful, like a social butterfly, but also bratty? My friend is more down to earth than that as well as a bit awkward.

I was literally just thinking of this! I once met this girl named Sophia who looked exactly like a Sophie. People kept calling her Sophie by accident, and when I heard her introduce herself, I thought I heard "Sophie", and thought "that makes sense, she looks just like her name is Sophie". Idk how else to explain it. Her parents were so close to the perfect name, but they were one letter off!
