Hertha
What do you think of this dusty German name? It bothered me for a while that it arose from a misreading of Nerthus in Tacitus's Germania, but now I find its origin charmingly quirky, so I'm quite taken with the name. Also, I searched for it on Wikipedia and discovered some cool namesakes: Hertha Ayrton (a polymathic scientist and suffragette who changed her name to Hertha to honor the eponymous heroine of a Swinburne poem against organized religion), Hertha Feist (a German expressionist dancer), and several actresses and scientists. Because I'm not German, I'm inclined to pronounce it like HUR-tha, which I'm sure most people will hate, but I find it nurturing (because of it's evocation of the hearth).Combos!Hertha Rosemary
