Steadfast nn Steady
Last year I met a young couple with a little boy named Steadfast nn Steady. They were Christian homeschoolers (as am I btw). Steady was actually kind of cute but I’m curious what you guys think of Steadfast?P.S. I can’t remember his baby brothers name but I know it felt painfully normal compared to Steadfast…

Steady sounds like a very nice horse. Steadfast is okay. It sounds like a character in "Pilgrim's Progress" but not overwhelmingly so. I'm glad that the brother wasn't named Watchful or Benevolent.
I mean it definitely screams I'm a sheltered, Christian homeschooler at the top of its lungs from the rooftops. Right up there with the likes of "Hopestill", "Aid on High", "Fear God", "Die Well", "Job raked out of the ashes", or "If Christ had not died for thee thou hadst been damned", for the button-up, Puritan imagery. I spent my early childhood in a Chrisitan-based cult and I still think it's too out there in terms of compound-word Christian names.
When I was about thirteen, I wanted to name my future children Puritan names. The five I chose were Solace, Lovejoy, Makepeace, Steadfast and Prosper. I guess I was a bit odd.
I remember, at a very young age, thinking that Loveday would be a nifty name and that the 'fact' that it could shorten to Daisy was even better.
I remember going through a teenage phase when I thought "Silence and Kindness" would be such beautiful Goth names. Your imaginary Puritan kids would have been much cooler than mine.
Silence and Kindness is fun but you should have gone all-out with Silence and Obedience lol
Obedience would be very un-gothlike.
I would say that depends how you look at it
Lovejoy would be a cute name for a little yellow Budgie / Parakeet I think. Prosper I could still be down with as a middle M name.
Steadfast sounds very Puritan, except the Puritans probably wouldn't shorten it to Steady; Steady sounds like a nickname, like a rapper's stage name or maybe a sarcastic nn for someone who is either clumsy or unreliable. Now I think about it, Steadfast sounds like it could be a persoal hygiene or continence product.
Wow, I love it! Steady is adorable.I'm reminded of Waitsill and Hopestill, which I love.
Steadfast is my favourite masculine puritan name! Would I ever use it, no, but it’s one of those guilty pleasure names.
This is going to date me terribly, but the first thing I think of around "Steady" is "Bebop and Rocksteady", from the Ninja Turtles. I was so surprised to read that it was used in a religious sense, I did not expect that at all!I like the Puritan vibe Steadfast has (once I get past the cartoon rhino bit). I guess being homeschooled, he won't have to worry about being teased for his name.
considering each generation since then has had an incarnation of the ninja turtles I'd say it would actually age you more if you didn't know who they were actually lol
Are Bebop and Rocksteady still around?? Aw, I'm so glad they can be enjoyed by new generations.
they were as recently as the Megan Fox TMNT movies at least. Not for sure about the tv shows though.
idky but I felt kinda emotional reading that because my late cousin loved TMNT and I have several memories of him talking about Bebop and Rocksteady lol He's the reason I still go to the theatrical releases of their movies, that and the theater releases of the Lego movies.
I really like it. Might be my new favorite as far as virtue names go. Steady is actually quite cute as a nickname and Steadfast Surname strikes me as a perfectly decent name to go through life with.
Don't like it at all, very hippie, and obviously so different from brother. Steady is terrible as a nn too
Omg. I like it. As far as names of that style go. Creative and fun and actually quite namey. Steady! Aww!
