Wdyt of Lyca?
Lyca is the name of a character from William Blake's poetry ("The Little Girl Lost" & "The Little Girl Found").
Do you know anything about the meaning/origin of this name? I thought I read on a website that it came from a Greek root which meant "harlot". Obviously, that's not the best meaning of a name for a child. I don't know whether or not that information is true. Do any of you know for sure?
Anyway, wdyt of the name Lyca in general?

Lycra. Lyra is much better.
First thing I though of was "lick a..." :oD Looking at everyone else's posts, though, it's apparently prn LY-ca, which is waaay too close to lycra or LEE-ca, which sounds too much like leeks or leaks. I'm afraid I can't like this one, as much as I want to. ;o)

Ditto that, also...
Lycaon and lycanthropy. Very unflattering connections!
The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness.
To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions.

As opposed to Lisa? Thats how it looks like its sounds.
Its a cute spelling, but now anything you can grow up on, cute for a kid, not an adult.

Is it pronounced Lye-kuh?
I think it's cute pronounced like that.. and it sounds more like a boys name than a girls name.
I have no idea what it means. I looked it up and I just got the same results as you.

I pronounce it LIE-kuh as well. That's right as far as I know.
I had the same pronunciation question
LYEkah, or LEEkah? I'd much prefer the former. I know Array mentioned Lycra, but my knee-jerk reference was perhaps weirder. I immediately thought "lycan," as in lycanthrope, like werewolf, like in Underworld. Odd thing to think of, y'think?
Anyway, looks like LYEkah to me, and I could see it on a girl. I prefer Lyra (LEErah) though.

ditto..
I instantly thought of Kate Beckinsale voicing the word "lycan."
So Lyca seems vampy / gothy to me. I kinda like it, but I'm lukewarm for real life - because of the "like a" thing (say her surname is Smith. Her self introduction sounds like "Hi! I'm like, a Smith!").
