Re: Elvis (f) and Malibu Barbie

Actually, Trisha doesn't know the gender of the baby, but said she'll use the name Elvis whether it's a boy or a girl. Yikes.
Elvis on a boy is alright - it's such a dated name but it's still usable. However, it's too masculine to be bestowed on a girl! She should use Eloise, since it's less common and shares the same etymology with Elvis.
Malibu, per se, isn't bad. I actually like it a lot; it's such a unusual place name. It also reminds me of the song by Hole. But Malibu Barbie sounds like a complete joke, and the Simpsons parody of the Barbie doll (Malibu Stacy) comes to mind.

I've no idea who she is, I'm guessing she's well known?
They are a YouTuber (using "they" because I think they are non-binary, but I'm not 100% sure). Their whole brand is troll-y and over-the-top and ridiculous. They have been involved in a few controversies, but I can't remember the details.
Huh, Trisha is so conventional. I'd think they'd change their name or at least add an ostentatious stage name.
disagree ...
... that Elvis is all right for a boy. It might be, but it's such a one-off kind of name, so totally associated with Presley, that I think it's just about impossible for the majority of people to separate the name from him. I imagine there were other Elvises before him, but Presley is the only one anyone's likely to know about, except Costello and he named himself after Presley.

I feel like I remember a Scandinavian poster here mentioning a sighting or two of it. Years and years ago but still. Maybe because it's so like Alvis.
And Elvis was used 122 times (all boys) in the US in 2021. Compared with Beyonce which was only 5 times and Madonna which was 6 times (all girls), that seems fairly regular usage for a rare name. The #1000 name for boys that year was only used 217 times.
