Did you know this was some dude's name? He was Clotworthy Skeffington, Viscount/Earl/Whatever of Massereene, in the 18th century. His name sounds made up.

I had actually read this once, there were in fact two Clotworthys, 1st earl of Massereene and his son, 2nd earl of Massereene, because Clotworthy Skeffington just must be passed along. Since they would almost assuredly be called Masdereene as adults the fist name probably didn't come into it much. Dreadful name, like a phlebotomist name in a satire.
Sounds funny and yes, made-up. Not quite silly enough to be a good made-up name, though. Too weird. Blood clots.
I guess it reminds me of the name Bloodworth.

To me it sounds like a name from the Hunger Games series.
Names with "worthy" in it sound pompous and fancy. My issue is with "Clot". Its kind of nasty.

I know that in the olden days, people used to name their kids after a more prosperous godparent, in the hope they would share the wealth with their namesake, and it led to a lot of very special names... I wonder if Clotworthy is an example of that!

This sounds like a name from a horror comedy.
It's the kind of name that if you saw it in fiction you'd tell the author "Look, this is dumb; I know it's fiction but Clotworthy Skeffington is asking too much of your readers."

You could call him Worth. It's not great, but at least it sounds more like a real name.

It's aristocratic seeming and reminds me of Fleamont, the name of Harry Potter's grandfather. On the other hand, someone was telling me recently about a couple of old bootleggers called Cornhead and Massey, and I feel like Clotworthy would fit right into that group.

Good for a vampire in a comedy, perhaps. Viscount Clotworthy sounds very vampiric.
I can totally see Viscount Clotworthy in a Terry Pratchett book. Purple cloak, Eastern European accent ... Until he's surprised and suddenly it's a cockney accent.
