Tristan
Wdyt and why do you think Tristan is not more popular? It was in some movie in the 1990s, don't remember what now, can you think of a movie this name is in?
Replies
I quite like Tristan, definitely more than the similar-sounding (and far more popular) Christian, as it's less like assigning someone a personality or duty - and that's with the Arthurian legacy!
Tristan has been in my Top 10 before, and my stock combo is Tristan Xavier.

I know a 1990s Tristan, here in South Africa. Pleasant guy, prosperous family perhaps trying to Do Something Different, name-wise. I don't mind it, but there are so many names I like better that I'd never think of using it.
Tristan has been a favorite boy name of mine for a long time; it has long history, sounds handsome/attractive, and has never been too common (surprisingly!! I’ve only met two people with this name, both times far apart; the first dude spelled it as “Tristin”). I don’t understand how anyone can hate it, but maybe some thought that Tristan means “sad” (and turned away, due to a depressing meaning).
I like it
I don't like this name just based off it's sound. I actually know someone with this name
I don't agree ... Tristan doesn't mean "sad." It's the same name as Tristram and Drustan. And it's not gender neutral - some people seem to think it sounds like Kristin and have given it to girls, and you may be right that that's why people don't use it that much - but that doesn't make it a genderless name. Trista is a made-up name. I word-associate Tristan with "trust" rather than "tryst." Mallory isn't even really a first name, and I don't think it's comparable, since its familiarity as a first name originates with a 1980s TV show and not from well-known literature.
Tristan is entirely masculine, and there is a feminine version as well, not one for both.
No not that movie but thanks, I have not seen that. I remember watching a movie in the late 90s, that name came up and my friend said she will use it for her future kids.
lol, I typed that before reading your edit.

Np! What about Legends of the Fall? Else there’s Stardust, but that was released after 2000. :)
Yes!!! Legends of the Fall! Thanks! :D
We were like 10 watching that and the memory stuck, lol.
