Thoughts on these names
Hi everyone, I posted the other week about names with a Witchy vibe and Anneza suggested it would be best to use more inconspicuous names, and after thinking on it more I realised she was totally right so I've gone back to the drawing board on things. I'd appreciate some opinions on these names and which names you think work best for these characters:
Female Character
26 years old, British/Norwegian heritage, surname is Helland. Names I've chosen from the England/Wales top 1000 or Norway top 100 lists:
Male Character
27 years old, Irish heritage with the surname Doran. Names I've chosen from either the Ireland or Northern Ireland top 100 or England/Wales top 1000 or just names that I like and have thrown into the mix because why not:
Dod yn unrhyw beth

Alina is the main character in Shadow and Bone so I wouldn’t use that one.
Aleah is a terrible mashup, “nothing” name.
I can’t picture a witch named Erica/Erika at all (although I’m sure they exist).
The rest are cool, although Karin might be too close to Karen and the whole meme thing.
Rhys is overused on magical and non-magical male characters, or at least gives that impression.
Orion is the male main character in A Deadly Education series.
Can’t picture a Blake or Brody being a witch (although I’m sure they exist).
Keane is too weird in my opinion, Kane might work though.
The rest are cool.

Erika and Cillian
I like Alina because I feel like it can accept any characterization or color, yet does not seem bland or weak. Could be witchy or sunny. Kaja is my second choice, Kaja is a little more dominant or aggressive sounding to me. A witch Alina is quietly dangerous, a witch Kaja is more ambitious and explosive. Maia gives me an emotional vibe like, she cares a lot. Karin has an innocent/childlike or learner aspect. Erika is self-assured, can't be fooled easily. Carina is idealistic. Aleah is ... too much like Alia in Dune.
I like Cillian for the guy. Owen is pretty good, too, I just don't find it as interesting, it's colder. Ambrose is unbelievable. Blake seems super Anglo to me and cocky. Brennan seems laid-back, a character who responds to others, not someone who'd get into a conflict. Brody ehhh I just don't like it! but it would work, would grow with a character. Keane on a character, I notice "keen" and it sounds very 'rigid boundaries' like it'd be good for a character without author insight. Orion ... eh it seems kind of symbolic for a story character, like how does he refer to Orion's story, but it seems bright and eager. Rhys just sounds "handsome" to me and might be vaguely boring.
