Re: Sylvie vs Elodie

Elodie is pretty, and in some ways I like what my accent turns it into: the much kitschier (and clunkier) "Ella-Dee". Ella Dee is pretty cute but it has none of the fancy French charm of Elodie.
If I had to choose between these two "concerns" I'd pick the name that I knew people would butcher less often, so, Sylvie. I really don't think having a dated name is that much of an issue anyway. It topped the charts in France in the 60s, but how much time would the kid be spending in France? It's the equivalent of meeting a baby named Lisa in North America nowadays - not really that big a deal.
