Names and Opinions from 2005-2006 (college recruitment)
Here are the names that interested or surprised me in a college recruitment mailing campaign.
Creed – Surprised me as a word name. Reminds me of Assassins Creed the series, or as having some religious undertones. I get more "protagonist" vibes from it than a regular name.
Jeanelle – I surprisingly loved this one when I came across it. I like Janelle a lot and wondered if I'd pronounce the two the same way or not? I'm leaning more toward JEAN-elle.
Nazarine – I know it's really religious, but it is a beautiful name.
Piper – This one struck me as kind of old-fashioned? But it also reminds me a lot of Orange is the New Black…
Presli – This one just surprised me. Including the spelling.
Samara – Beautiful!
Scarllett – So many extra letters for a name that's already a word.
Skyla – I've noticed that "Sky" names were really popular in the early 2000s. Is that trend still going? I know a lot of Sky, Skylar, Skylee, etc. names from 2000–2005.
Skylee – Same.
Soleil – Love! Though I wonder if the parents just really liked Cirque du Soleil...
Twilite – I really don't like this. Just go with Twilight or not at all...
Weina – This one I'd never heard of before, so it caught my attention! It feels a little Medieval.
Wynter – I prefer Wynn or Winter. But that together.

I guess it just amazes me that anyone could think Piper was "old-fashioned". Piper was basically unknown as a girls' name before Rosetta Jacobs was given Piper Laurie as a stage name by someone at Universal Studios in 1949. So really there shouldn't be any girl or woman named Piper who was born before 1950, unless they changed their name as an adult. Piper Laurie herself just died twelve days ago at age 91.
So Piper is actually an extremely modern name, at least as a feminine form, and not "old-fashioned" at all.

The only name that I like is Jeanelle; I’d love it pronounced as “JEAN-Elle” (though, I do prefer Janelle. Also, Samara is kind of nice, too)! As for the note about Sky- names, here’s what I have to say (as someone who’s actually in college rn, born in very early 2005)-they seem to not be overused (for my age group), despite some popularity. I have never heard of Skylee, but it doesn’t surprise me at all. Anyways, I’d say that I hear more little kids with the name Skye (compared to anything else), nowadays.
I like Nazarine and Skyla.
Creed – I don't like as a name
Jeanelle – Very pretty but I prefer Janelle
Nazarine – Cool name but reminds me of Nazareth
Piper – Sounds like a dog name
Presli – Ugly but I prefer Priscilla.
Samara – Beautiful yet elegant
Scarllett – Meh. I prefer Scarlett enough
Skyla – Okay but I prefer Skylar enough
Skylee – Meh
Soleil – I'm not a fan of this name
Twilite – Ugly and reminds too much of Twilight then I prefer Twyla enough
Weina – Alright but meh
Wynter – It's okay but I prefer Winter

Wow. I did not mean to reply, I meant to do this as a separate reply to the thread. My apologies. (Guess it's a first though as I'm still new to BTN 😅)

Creed - I just think of the band
Jeanelle - Janelle is better. I would want Jeanelle to be pronounced like the name Jean in French with elle on the end.
Nazarine - Nazarene would be the religious reference I think? Nazarine sounds like a fruit. (like a tangerine / nectarine hybrid)
Piper - This seems popular and not old-fashioned to me. I like it on a boy but it's a little cutesy. I think it would be a good animal name but it's good on a human too.
Presli - bad
Samara - I like it
Scarllett - I agree, you don't need extra letters for Scarlet! Scarlett is already unnecessary
Skyla - It's okay but yes, I think there was a Sky trend.
Skylee - Trendy and dateable. In theory it makes a nice picture (the sky + lee in names usually means lea as in meadow), but it just sounds trendy.
Soleil - I like it
Twilite - "lite" for light only exists in dumb brand names and ads so this doesn't even look like a name. Twilight could have been a cool middle name in a pre-Stephenie Meyer world. I've seen Twila and Twyla on older ladies.
Weina - looks like weiner
Wynter - I like Winter. Wynter doesn't look as bad to me as I thought it would, but it would still be an annoying name to have.

I like Samara and I know one born 2005
