Where I live, it's mostly Karel. I like that; not enough to use, but it has a healthy outdoor vibe. Karl is an indoor person for some reason: I don't suppose Karl Marx went out much.

I don't really like the k spelling, but Carl isn't bad. It's not a name I'd use on a little boy, for that I'd use Charles. But Carl is what I'd call a sort of favorite-uncle name.
