Carmel
I made a poll and a lot of people voted that Carmel is a hard name for a girl in the US, which shocked me! I thought it would be very normal. Why is that? What's the issue with it? Do you like or dislike this name?

I think Shulamit would be a little more hard. Carmel isn’t that bad, but then again I love Caramel. That aside it’s a fine name.

I see no reason why it should be, have no issue with it, though my first thought is usually the town in California if not the sweet, despite the differing pronunciations.

It’s heavily associated with fundamental Christian sects for me, which is a complete turn-off, plus it sounds like a type of candy. I prefer Carmen. Same/similar history and meaning, but with different associations.

Maybe because it looks like caramel? Where I live people pronounce it like “carmel” I don’t see anything wrong with it though
