I’m not a fan of this name at all. But, I don’t think that it sounds the worst.

I think it's cool when I encounter it.
It's classical and naturey. Not as gauche as Eunice or Hortense, not as popular seeming as Silvia or Phoebe.Kind of reminds me of: Glynis, Hollis, Sybil, Harriet, Frances, Felix, Willis. Or even Amaryllis and Philomena but more chill.I'd rather be Phyllis than Frances, at least.

One of the vintage names (like Doris and Joan) that I like but wouldn’t use. There’s a cool character in St Clare’s by Enid Blyton called Phyllis “Fizz” (her siblings couldn’t pronounce her full name). But this name deserves a comeback, I’d love to meet a baby Phyllis!

My next door neighbour growing up was named Phyllis, and even as a young child I remember thinking how unfortunate that was and calling her "Jill" in my head, I can't tell you why Jill maybe because it rhymed. Phyllida is slightly less unattractive, but only very marginally. Both sound like a disease or the treatment for one, possibly due to the similarity to syphilis.

If you lower the first vowel, from an i to more like an uh, you get the Afrikaans word for garbage. In spite of that, I've known a couple of local Phyllis people, including an ancestor of my husband's from I think the 1890s. I don't mind it - certainly don't associate it with syphilis! - but if forced to choose, I'd go for Phyllida any day.

Too similar to phallus and syphilis.

I know and adore a woman named Phyllis but the name is just so bad. It reminds me of syphilis mostly.

I don’t think it’s bland. I just think it’s dated with not many redeeming qualities. It’s in the categories of names like Janet, Barbara, Susan, Ruth etc.
