I have an aunt with this name who I've always had a close relationship with. It's hard for me to not associate the name with her, given that she's been apart of my life since, well, always. I pretty much consider her as a secondary mother. That notion felt even more true when my real mother passed away a few years ago, her twin.
So I guess you can say that I'm very partial towards the name. But I think I would feel the same way about it regardless. I think I would still view it as a decent name, albeit a common dog's name. (Although not sure how much anymore)

Its absolutely adorable, but I would never nickname someone named Mary "Molly". I don't get it at all. It might sound cutesy, but its been in use for so long that I think it could work as a standalone name at this point.

I love this classic name, it’s always been a fave of mine. Works well on a female of all ages too.

I actually really like Molly. I like Millie better, but Molly has this quality to it that makes it work for all stages of life.

Kinda love Molly, probably because of the one I know, some people taint a name by association, others polish it. She is the only one I've ever known whose given name is Mary, and has been called by the diminutive Molly forever. Not something you see much any more.

I like Molly, but I've always thought it was a bit insubstantial as a given name.(also the drug connotation isn't a mark in its favor)

Molly and Polly are both family names; I much prefer Polly, though I'm not sure why. Perhaps Molly is too close to the Afrikaans word 'mollig', which means chubby. I don't think of either of them as nicknames for Mary or anything else.

It's funny that you mention that. I have an aunt named Molly and my mother, her twin, was named Polly. Talk about overly matching names. Lol!

Not a terrible name, but I’m not a fan because:
1. Drug slang
2. Too nicknamey for my taste
3. I knew a horrible girl called Molly, and also a Guinea pig called this.
But it’s a sweet, better than names like Jaxcsyn and Emahleeigh…

I think it's fine, but it's not my style.

Molly is drug slang where I am. Regardless, I still think it’s a cute name. It sounds very sweet and gentle.
