I like both of them very much, but Ian slides off the tongue easier.

Evan. It has always been one of my faves. Ian is okay, I guess.

It has nicer sounds and has a more contemporary vibe, whereas Ian is dated imo.

I love Ian and would use it gladly. Evan just doesn't have the same classic lightness; plus, the only Evan I've known was mildly unpleasant. All the Ians in my life have been wonderful, with one brief exception.

Ian! A classic boys name which doesn’t have enough recognition. Love it.

Evan. It looks longer and sounds more masculine to me.

Hard choice for me because I love both names. However, I prefer the name Evander to Evan. So, I’d go for Ian (since it isn’t as popular). If I could make it to my preference: Evander Ian.
