I really dislike it for either sex. I associate it with a surname exclusively and don't think it sounds good in any other context.
I like Delaney for a girl. It is really cute, and it has a confident sporty feel.
Maybe because I have never encountered it as a surname, but it feels more fresh and feminine than a lot of surnames as first names.

Its a surname, as a general rule I dislike random surnames as given names on boys and despise them on girls.
I had a really beloved person with this surname, but I can't stand it as a first name... maybe because I think of it so much as a surname. I don't like it as a given name at all for these personal reasons, and because in Ireland/Scotland this is more a surname, but I do think the sound is nice.

I only think of it as a ln, so gender isn't an issue! As a f given name, it looks and sounds like an elaboration of Elaine, which is a name I'm not a bit fond of.
