I really dislike it for either sex. I associate it with a surname exclusively and don't think it sounds good in any other context.

I like Delaney for a girl. It is really cute, and it has a confident sporty feel.Maybe because I have never encountered it as a surname, but it feels more fresh and feminine than a lot of surnames as first names.

Its a surname, as a general rule I dislike random surnames as given names on boys and despise them on girls.

Definitely girl. I really like it and that it has multiple nickname options: Del, Della, Laney, Lane, Dellie.

I had a really beloved person with this surname, but I can't stand it as a first name... maybe because I think of it so much as a surname. I don't like it as a given name at all for these personal reasons, and because in Ireland/Scotland this is more a surname, but I do think the sound is nice.I dislike Irish/Scottish surnames being used as first names for personal reasons, but I think it'd be less predictable as a boy's name.

I’ve only met girls with this name, but I think it’s unisex! Delaney is a really cool name. I would most likely use the name Layne, but I’ve always like this name.

I only think of it as a ln, so gender isn't an issue! As a f given name, it looks and sounds like an elaboration of Elaine, which is a name I'm not a bit fond of.
