Joni
Hi -- what do you think of Joni as a girl's name? It's a variation of Joanie. Any middle names?

I know a 4 year old Joni, her mum named her after Joni Mitchell. I prefer Joan nn Joanie.

It's purely a nickname to me. I'd never use it by itself.I quite like Joan.

I don't particularly dislike Joan as a name.Joni does have one thing going for it - Joni Mitchell - as a possible namesake. But Joanie and/or Joni as given names, though, are definitely not my kind of style.

This is horrible! I had a landlord with this name and she never told me her actual name. I had a fake rental contract (another issue) so there was no way to know what her name was.

Had a friend with this name tho she pronounced it 'Johnny' so I always have trouble altering that mind set. But if you are saying 'Joanie' perhaps something basic like Clair for the middle.

It looks horrible. Not so much a variation of Joanie as a mutilation. Whyever anyone would use Joanie as a full name, let alone Joni, I can't imagine. Just name the child Joan and the nn will follow, until it doesn't - I've never met an adult Joanie or, especially, Joni. But no doubt that -ie ending is fine while the bearer's age is in single figures.
