I've always liked Margaret, and preferred it to Margot, Marguerite etc. I'd only consider it as a mn, because where I live, the standard nn is Margie, with the g as in, well, Margaret rather than Margery. The nn I'd feel most comfortable with is Peggy, but that's unlikely to happen. The only Peggy I've known has it as her full name.
