Never liked Margaret, which puts me in a minority on this board. I guess Maggie is kind of cute.

Margaret never really appealed to me save for the association with Princess Margaret. It just feels a bit boring to me as it is. I like Margaretta a bit more so long as it's a middle name. Marguerite is my favorite variant in terms of first names. For nicknames my favorites are Maggie, followed by Margaux/Margot, then Meg. Marguerite Celine says with me often. Others: Marguerite Justine, Marguerite Angeline, Marguerite Ophelia, Marguerite Alyce, Marguerite Lorelei, Marguerite Serene, Marguerite Lucille, Marguerite Noelle, Marguerite Diane/Diana, Marguerite Isabelle, Marguerite Victorie, Marguerite Elisabeth, Marguerite Emilie, Marguerite Vivienne, Marguerite Odette, Marguerite Cosette

I've always liked Margaret, and preferred it to Margot, Marguerite etc. I'd only consider it as a mn, because where I live, the standard nn is Margie, with the g as in, well, Margaret rather than Margery. The nn I'd feel most comfortable with is Peggy, but that's unlikely to happen. The only Peggy I've known has it as her full name.

Margaret Anne is my daughter. We call her "Aurie." I like it for all the nickname options for her to choose when she's older.

I never used to like it but I'm warming up to it, mostly by the way of the nn Meg, which I really like. I think Maggie is also sweet.Margaret Celia
Margaret Emma
Margaret Naomi

Could never get on board with this name. I can understand the appeal of all the Anglophone classics except Margaret - I even see the appeal of other "not pretty" / "not overtly feminine" names like Rachel and Bridget. But not Margaret. It's literally gritty (at the end).Margot, however, is quite nice - as is Marguerite. Gretchen is fun. But no Margaret, not for me. I don't even like Maggie (which makes me think of a shaggy dog).

I like the name in theory but I don't actually . . . like it. I think it's a really distinguished-sounding name, with a lot of history behind it. I also think it's kind of ugly-sounding, and rather dated.I tend to prefer Marguerite, personally.I like Meg as a nickname.
