Comments
Hi folks,
For those of you active in the name COMMENT section of this site, there are a couple of changes to announce...
- anyone can delete their own comments
- any VETERAN user (account at least 6 months old with lots of logins) can edit their own comments at any time (non-veterans can only edit for a limited time after commenting)
Just look for the buttons at near the bottom of your comment. Please use responsibly. :)

Another change: you can now leave comments for user-submitted names.
I've got a question: If a user submitted name is added to the main name database, are the comments "carried" along or are the comments deleted?
I was hoping for this as it's one of my favourite features! (to read)
Thank you, Mike

One question, though: is there (supposed to be) a difference between the comment section and the discussion tab?
There is indeed a bit of potential overlap. The main differences are:
Comment section
- public facing
- ideally of interest to the general public, who may or may not care what the name's definition says
- you cannot respond directly to comments
Discussion
- for editors, submitters, correctors
- discuss how the name's definition should be structured
- designed to allow responses/threads

Thanks for adding the feature! 🙌
Oh my goodness, this is the change my 12-year-old self desperately needed on here! (I know I sent some emails about this, ca. 2005/06 lol.) Thanks, Mike! :)
(also I wrote some notable user comments that are now 15+ years out of date and I can edit them and I'm very excited.)
