I like it. It's on our list for a boy since it's my maiden name. We have decided, should we have one, he'll be called "Howie".

Mum had this name and Robert picked out for me had I been boy. I think Dad would have vetoed it on the grounds of playground teasing potential. Yet I actually wonder whether the fact it rhymes with coward is a drawback. It strikes me as a pleasant name.

I do know a kind, intellectual Howard. Mostly it makes me think of men my father's age who were named Howard as a way of honoring Hymies and Herschels and Chaims without giving the kid a name that was out of fashion. It is now itself out of fashion, but maybe it will make a comeback.

I love Howard, it's adorkable. And Howie is really fun.
