Names that fell out of the top 1000
Inspired by a very recent post. Here are just some of the names which fell out of this year's list for 2021. Any favorites and ones you're glad to see gone?
Abner: I honestly had no idea this one was even listed. Maybe I forgot
Bobby: Better as a nn, but still kinda sad to me.
Brett: Not surprised, but I actually like this one. I far prefer it to Rhett, which sounds like a dog's name and makes me think of Rett syndrome
Cedric
Coen: Thank God
Corinne: Another name I didn't even realize was in. Maybe retroactively added? Huh. I think this one's actually quite nice
Darwin: Thank God. Too much teasing potential. Dawson sounds so much better anyway.
Elisabeth & Violette: Both of which probably surprised me the most, even if they're not the most common, every day spellings of the names.
Dayton: Thank God. Sounds like 'dating!'
Guadalupe: Sounds very unnatractive to my ears.
Karen: Yup, no surprise by this one and probably old new by now? Just thought I'd include this one.
Rogelio: Pretty sure there's a chocolate bar or snack named this. Lol!
Susan: A bit of a guilty pleasure name. Sad to see go
Willie: Thank God. Slang term for something rather, well, inappropriate
Queen
Xzavier & Bentlee: Because Xavier and Bentley are far better.

Abner makes me think of a guy in a suit who smokes cigars all day. It’s too dated.
Bobby is alright. It’s just Bobby.
I love the name Brett. Sad it fell out.
Cedric sounds like something you’d name a character in my opinion.
Coen should be spelled Cohen so it’s less confusing. I have mixed feelings.
Corinne is really cute. I might name my kid that when I’m an adult. Disappointed this one fell out too.
Darwin makes me think of TAWOG. It’s very dorky.
Elisabeth and Violette are okay. I prefer their other spellings.
Dayton is literally a ship name my friend made up for him and his girlfriend. Coincidentally, they stopped dating.
Guadalupe is only good if you’re Hispanic.
Karen is ew. Very understandable this one fell out.
Rogelio is weird. It sounds like someone tried to mix Roger and Emilio together and it didn’t work out.
Susan is okay. A bit dated. Suzanne is a lot fresher sounding.
Willie is… yeah
Queen is kinda tacky but whatever.
Xzavier is confusing. Just use Xavier???
Bentlee is ugly no matter the spelling. Sounds very dorky.

It is unfortunate about the famous name Darwin. I'd sooner compare it to Huxley than Dawson (Dawson is like Frasier to me, total tv name). I feel like it's kinda gross that Huxley is still rising but people can't handle Darwin? Huxley is a worse namesake, not to mention what it means and how it sounds.
I don't feel that the change in popularity for Susan is significant. It's been hovering between 200-250 girls/year for a while. I think it's really not time for it to come back yet. It sorta boggles me that more than 200 girls were still named Karen, though. And almost 700 Alexas?!
Seems strange that Brett and Trent are gone but Rhett is on the rise. I don't know why ... some pop-culture Rhett I haven't heard of?
I'm kinda surprised to see Cedric and Duncan fall off. I didn't think they were rising, but I thought they'd beat out something like Aldo or Granger or Maxton.

In regards to Darwin & Dawson, I meant that they share similar sounds (Huxley of course doesn't) Like why name a child Darwin when there's Dawson right there, a better alternative? Nicer sound, less baggage and less teasing.
I hear what you're saying about Brett/Trent but Rhett still being on the rise. The only thing I can contribute it to (and I could very well be wrong) is Rhett McLaughlin from the VERY popular YouTube channel, Rhett & Link (Good Mythical Morning) I personally love him. But his name, not so much! Lol And perhaps of Everett and it's current trend

I think Rhett is in the same style category that Rhys, Jett, Everett, Scarlett would be.
Brett (and to a lesser degree Trent) seems older like Brad, Brock, Brendan, Brent, Brittney, Kent, Travis, Trevor, Tracy would be imo. And people who'd use it might prefer Brooks, Beckett, Bennett, Beau, Barrett, Bryce, Jett, Tatum. There's just so many similar but newer sounding names.

I second this!
Exactly, Rhett is literary and also "unspent"
Unspent seems like the best explanation, to me.
The "Rhett Butler" thing seems to have worn off when people started using Scarlett ... maybe that's why it didn't get "spent" alongside Brett.

Good point
I'm surprised as well, although Willie did leave in 2019 and came back in 2020. Really hope this time it stays away for good.

Susan will return. I'm starting to really like it.
Elisabeth and Violette are lovely individually and together.
Darwin and Abner are adorable.

Yeah, I'm sure Susan will. (:
