What do you think of the name Shannon for a boy?
Replies
I like it. I agree it's very soft sounding. I still prefer it for a girl but it would have a lot of character on a boy.
I think that, as many names that once upon a time were unisex, it is currently perceived as too feminine to be used on boys.
It has Karen Energy, no thank you. I'd prefer Shiloh.
I don't like it on a boy. And I think Perrine makes a good point about the origin being a feminine name. I don't think I'd want the name if I were a guy.

I don't care if it started as a male name, I hate it for a boy. It just doesn't seem right.
Shannon is definitely female to me. I've never known any male Shannon's and I am okay with that.
I absolutely LOVE it, but sadly I don't know if I could ever use it.
I don't really like it. Shannon most likely comes from Sionann which is feminine. I also looked up usage in Ireland: 0 Shannons (male) and lots and lots (female). I guess it can be from a surname or river and therefore also masculine but would most guys love to have a name that many many women about 25+ years older than them have? It feels dated and tired.
I've only seen it on girls; one of the better river names, but there are very many that I like more.
It's ok
I love it for a boy, but I like it on girls too. It sounds really surname-ish though.
I like it and knew one when I was a kid that unfortunately ended up going as Shane then because kids made fun of him.
