Amelie and Amélie
What are your thoughts of Amelie and Amélie? I'm surprised that it never became very popular, any ideas why? It fits in perfectly with Amelia and Emily but it's not as common.Would you choose Amelie or Emily? Would you use the accent? Please rate my list: https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/6232

I love the name Amelie! I like it with or without the accent. Even if the proper French spelling is with an accent, I wouldn’t use an accent if I were to name the child Amelie. As an American, I would fear coming off as pretentious with the accent, plus the issue with documents not readily having the accent available. The more I look at Amélie, the more I agree with someone’s comment that it looks more “complete” than Amelie. I also like Emily and Amelia. Emily is a little more dated but I think it will make a comeback, and Amelia is quite popular. Amelie is a nice alternative to that.

I absolutely adore Amélie - in part due to the film. I'm also surprised that it never caught on, it's a nice alternative to Amelia and Emily.I choose Amélie, and with the accent. I wouldn't have any problem using it in real life.

I don't get the appeal. I would most definitely pick Emily. It's always been one of my favorites.

I prefer Amelie without the accent. I had a lovely brownie called Amelie around 15 years and both her parents were German though Amelie was born in the uk.

Amelie wins over Emily. Both are nice. I sooo much prefer it with the accent. (Yes I’m stingy like that sadly) Amélie is just so pretty and cool to me.

Amelie is cute, but I actually pronounce it like Amélie. I honestly am a bit more of an Amelia person -- but I can only speak for myself, and wouldn't be above using Amelie either.Regarding Amelie or Emily, I like both... But Emily is my mn. I wouldn't name a child after myself, heh

I think Amélie became popular after the film. I adore Amélie, the only one in the Emily - Amelia range I actually like. I don't care for Amelie, which feels like just another Emily that has to spell her name all the time.

I couldn't quite tell you why, but I dislike Amelia and yet loooove Amelie. (Though I like Amalia even more still.) I wouldn't use Emily - there are far too many in my age range so it's made me a bit sick of the name. And I wouldn't use the accent, in an English speaking context it's just too much trouble.

I'd certainly use the accent; otherwise people where I live would guess either AMily or aMEEly. I like Emily very much and would still use it though probably as a mn only, in today's world. I don't enjoy Amelia at all. Amélie is fine if you're French or maybe Canadian, which I'm not. Amelie looks unfinished
