I wouldn't use it personally, but I can get along with it.
I like it, but it does look a lot like Cheddar.
There is a famous blogger who named her son Alder about a year ago. Thats cute. I think I would consider both and:

I know a Cedar. Her siblings have unusual names too.
Better than Baobab. But the only tree name I would consider is Rowan (m).
I don't know why but it makes me think of cheese.
I don't like it
