I like Magdalen very much, and Magda as a nn. Magdalena, however, I dislike for its clunky, clumsy rhythm. I have the same problem with Angelina, Clementina, Georgiana etc: the emphasis on the first and third syllables. Elizabeth, Felicity, Victoria etc sound much lighter and livelier.
