Judy
I'm starting to think Judy is a pretty darn cute name. What do you think. Do you like Judith?
I also have a soft spot for Patty, but I know everyone hates that. But how cool would two little kids named Judy and Patty be?

I love both Judith and Judy. I think of the White Christmas character, and I love the way they feel as I say them. This name spent a long time in the top spot on my list.
The only thing that holds me back from actually using it is that I go back and forth about its appropriateness. I know non-Jewish people have used it for a long time and that it’s moved beyond its original meaning for most people. But I study names and their origins. I can’t plead ignorance or claim that meanings suddenly don’t matter.
I guess what I’d like to see is for lots and lots of people who aren’t me to start using it again. People who don’t have my hang-ups and who can just enjoy it.
Patty is not a favourite. While Judy feels ripe for a comeback, Patty still feels dated somehow. Plus it reminds me of the disc-like food shape. Hamburger patty, peppermint patty, etc. I could see Judith with
Alexandra (Judy and Sandy)
Beatrix (Judy and Trixie)
Eleanor (Judy and Nora)
Evelyn (Judy and Evie)
Lydia (Judy and Lydie)
Margaret (Judy and Peggy)
Penelope (Judy and Penny)
Rosemary (Judy and Rosie)
Verbena (Judy and Beanie)

Patty makes me think of Krabby Patties from Spongebob.
Judy and Judith to me sound rather old fashioned. I don't know why but I find them kind of hard to say. I think Jade is a fresher, more modern alternative.

I'd rather Trudy and Mattie, or maybe Polly and Janet, or...
Judy & Lauren, Judith & Laurel
Judith & Olivia, Judy & Liv
Judy & Violet, Judith & Viviana
Judith & Hadassah, Judit & Hadar
I do like Judy and also various forms of Judith.
The biblical Judith was fierce, and I vaguely associate ivy and olive wreaths, plus Artemisia Gentileschi, Judy Garland, and "Hey Jude".
I have an aunt Judy who is a character and once had a sweet old landlady Judith "Judy".

Judy and Patty would be like time travel - Back to the Fifties!
I really don't warm up to Judy, not even slightly: trite rather than cute. (I like Ditte, though!) But I don't enjoy Julie and Julia either, though Juliet's fine as a mn. I do like Judith a lot - it has stature and dignity, and energy as well. But it would take more will power than most folks seem to have, to avoid the nn. Like Abigail becoming Abby and Deborah becoming Debby and Rebecca ... you get the picture.

Don't like Judy, Judith, patty
I love Judy! I've always thought it was cute and that Judith was nice.
Judy is so bright and cheerful and full of fun. Judith is heavy and sour-faced and sullen. Judy and Patty sound like they're at the malt shop in their poodle skirts and ponytails looking at the movie magazines and swooning over Rock Hudson and James Dean and planning to meet their boyfriends Chuck and Jerry to go to the sock hop.
I do too. Judy and Sally are the best.
Not very cool in my opinion.
