Re: Is Stanley ruined?
It's not ruined, but it's extremely dated and dorky. There's also the popular Flat Stanley character.
I'm told by a friend whose family is of Polish descent that in places with large numbers of Polish people, the word Stanley is slang for any Polish-American male, because apparently the name Stanley was once very popular in that group. He's done his family tree and there's tons of Stanleys (and Stephanies) on it.Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you criticize him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes!

Oh yeah, Stanley in A Street Car Named Desire was Polish.

Stanley Kowalski, which is evidently the most stereotypical Polish-American guy's name out there. My friend says he actually knew a man named this, and someone was always bawling "Stellllla!" at him.
He also says the traditional nn for Stanley among the Polish is Stosh.
