Is Stanley ruined?
I mean, thanks to celebrity stans (from "stalker fans"), and Stan Lee.

Not at all. I know a child named Stanley and never had either of those thoughts. Maybe if his middle name was Lee or if we called him Stan, but it never crossed my mind before. I thought it was old fashioned, but he’s a Jr. so it makes sense.

Ruined, no but utterly unattractive, yes.

No? I don't associate stalkers, and I don't know who Stan Lee is.But Stanley is famously a tool company, and Stanley the name sounds like someone who'd be a tool figuratively. I don't think that ruins it for people who like it, but that's how I hear it.

I don't think so... well, not in the UK. I know a Stanley who is 10 years old, and it works, although most people's immediate thoughts on knowing a young boy Stanley were 'that's pretty old-fashioned' (among the people I work with). I just don't like the name very much.

It's not ruined, but it's extremely dated and dorky. There's also the popular Flat Stanley character.
I'm told by a friend whose family is of Polish descent that in places with large numbers of Polish people, the word Stanley is slang for any Polish-American male, because apparently the name Stanley was once very popular in that group. He's done his family tree and there's tons of Stanleys (and Stephanies) on it.

Oh yeah, Stanley in A Street Car Named Desire was Polish.

Stanley Kowalski, which is evidently the most stereotypical Polish-American guy's name out there. My friend says he actually knew a man named this, and someone was always bawling "Stellllla!" at him.
He also says the traditional nn for Stanley among the Polish is Stosh.

No I don’t think so.

Ummm..it might ruin Stan, but not Stanley. The nickname can be avoided, I think.

“Stan” in that context is actually from the Eminem song, Stan. I’m not sure what Stan Lee has done wrong? Anyway, I love the name Stanley. It’s quite popular here.

To clarify, Stanley might sound like Stan Lee. Which is misleading. As I despise Eminem, and his "music", that makes sense.

I don’t think anyone would assume a Stanley was Stan Lee, even Stan Lee’s name was Stanley.
