Ugly. If Toby is desired, go with Tobias, if the Oct- element is desired, go with Octavian or Octavius.

I love the character by that name from Seanan McGuire’s books, but there’s a reason for her being given that name (being half Fae, for a start). On a real child it would suck.

Doesn't work for me. And the fact that one of our cats is Toby (named by the rescue shelter) and often known as Toby the Tubby Tabby doesn't help.The only month name I like is May, and it isn't even a month name in the way that October is.

I don't get a good impression.
October "Toby" sounds like a name for an eleven-year-old character in a mediocre HP-influenced "dark" humorous circa-2005 book for tweens.
Toby is a dog name in my mind, like Benji and Tyler. Also, a name they thought was cute for a baby in the 70s - his brothers are Corey, Heath, Ruben, & Casey.
