Wdyt of Fanny? I knew a young girl with that name, about 14.

It might work as a nickname for Frances, Francine, etc.
Ripe for teasing, honestly. Poor kid, being 14 is tough enough already.
It used to be my nickname, some people still call me that. I think it’s fine in non-English speaking contexts.
Wow! I always assumed that Fawkes was named after Guy Fawkes, so that seems weird.
I've met a couple of Fanny's, and I went to school with one. It's a legit name where I'm living. I think people are more aware of it's meaning in US/UK now though, and it's not as popular these days. I've never really liked the name, and especially not when I heard of it's US/UK meaning. It's a bit like Alfons for me - both cute but a bit childish, and with not so cute meanings in other languages.

Perhaps if it wasn't associated with the vagina (or, indeed, the arse if one is American), I might have liked it in the same way I like Annie or Danny. Maybe.
As a name, I associate it only with Aunt Fanny from The Famous Five

I've known a couple Fannys. It's, uh, not a bad name, association aside.
In the US, fanny is a slang term for buttocks. It isn't rude in any way, it's the kind of thing your grandmother might say. "I fell right on my fanny in the middle of the store!" "Or maybe "You'll get your fanny warmed up good if you keep on sassing me back!"
In the UK, I understand that it means the female private parts.
So no, Fanny is far beyond its shelf life.

What does sassing me back mean?
it means ...
Talking back, smarth-mouthing, arguing, being disrespectful.

Translation: "I will slap your arse if you carry on giving me an attitude!"

bahaha, exactly. I'm going to try to work your sentence into conversation today just for fun.
Oh okay! Thanks for explaining.
I don't really like it
