Burt from Glee. Pert, blurt, burp, bears. Bertram, ravens, coat-of-arms. Prince Albert. Bart, Bartholomew, Barnabas, Mert, Robert.
I suppose it sounds old/strong/loud/coarse to me, in a general way.
There's a couple Bertrams in my family tree who were working class German immigrants, but I never met them.
