My Favorite Nature-Themed Unisex Names
Replies
Aspen - I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it. I’d prefer it for a girl, but I wouldn’t use it.
Rowan - I like it for a boy, hate it for a girl. Never used to like this name, but it’s grown on me over the years.
Indigo - I like this name a lot, for a girl. Indi makes a cute nn. A great name for a rainbow baby.
Sage - Love this name, it’s been a fave of mine for years. We had it on our list when we were expecting our second child and while I honestly love it for a girl or a boy, I do like it slightly more for girls. Still on my list all these years later and still love it.
Hawthorn - Ok for a mn for a boy, but it’s not a nature name I’d personally use.
Ember - Love this name for a girl. On my list and a name I’d consider using, because I like the imagery of it.
Briar - There’s something about this name that I just don’t like. It just doesn’t appeal to me.
Winter - Super cute, I like it. Definitely like it more for a girl, but I could see it on a boy too.
Forest - Handsome, strong and friendly. A really nice name. Only like it for a boy though.
Sky - Love this name, it’s been a fave of mine for years. Beautiful name for a girl.
Ash - Don’t love it, don’t hate it, but not a bad little name. As a full name, I only like it for a boy.
Juniper - Super cute and Juni is such a cute nn. Only like it for a girl.
Rain - I’ve liked this name for years, Rainy is a cute nn and I prefer it for a girl.

In all honesty, I assumed Aspen was masculine when I first saw it. If not at least unisex. It wasn't even until fairly recently I realized BtN only listed it as feminine. It's unisexual, but I prefer it on a boy. The city in Colorado is beautiful, however. The name itself just makes me think ass-pen. Not a bad name though. 6/10.
Rowan is another name I assumed was masculine. I definitely prefer it on a male, but it's not horrible for a girl. I think I would stick with naming a boy that though.
Indigo is vastly leaning feminine to me.
Sage is very cool with a cool etymology. I like it for either gender, but I slightly prefer it on a girl because that's just what I'm used to.
Ember is a unisex name?
For some reason, I just can't picture a guy named Briar...
I like Forrest! I like Forest too. I don't like it on a girl though.
I like Sky! I actually prefer this to the Skye spelling, but at the end of the day either one is fine. I don't care for it on a boy, however.
Yay! An actual unisex name. Ash is a nice one. Ashley, Asher, Ashton, Asherah, yup. Unisex.
Juniper is cool.
I like Rain! It's just so calming. Just like how Sky gives me good visuals. I much prefer the Reign spelling for a boy though.

I don't like Aspen or Hawthorn: Hawthorn seems OTT goth (something that'd fit in The Addams Family), and Aspen seems corporate (like Aspen dentist offices).
Not names I'd use, but they're okay, as unisex:
Indigo
Sage
Briar
Winter
Sky
Ash
Juniper
Rain
Okay and seem better as masculine to me:
Forest
Rowan
Okay and seems better as feminine to me:
Ember
If I had to use one, I'd pick:
Sky, Winter, or Forest for a boy
Rain, Sage, or Juniper for a girl
...probably Sky (m) or Sage (f) today.

Prefer on a boy:
Aspen
Rowan ♥ - first association — Rowan Atkinson.
I'd use Rowena or Ravenna for a girl.
Hawthorn
Forest - my least favourite in this category. It's just too blunt.
Ash
Prefer on a girl:
Sage
Ember - I think it's a cute NN for November, my GP.
Briar ♥ - I like how this prickly sweet thing looks and sounds. One of two B names on my PNL.
Winter - I prefer Summer or Autumn.
Sky
Juniper
Rain - on the one hand, it's close to girl names Raina, Raine, Renée,
on the other, there is a masculine Rein.
But I still prefer it on a girl, I guess.
And Indigo is unisex.
Indigo powder, indigo colour and indigo kids come to mind. It also reminds me of Inigo (Inigo Jones).

River is my favorite. I like it on either.
Aspen - either. It's neat except the first syllable sounds too much like
Rowan - a favorite of mine for a boy. I think it's blah on a girl.
Indigo - a fad from a decade ago or more, not my style but it's not horrible. Either
Sage - I'm not into it, but it's alright. I like it more for a girl but either is fine
Hawthorn - eh, not namey at all imo. Sounds like an uppity surname name rather than a nature name to me, since hawthorn is poisonous.
Ember - it's a fad but I like it. Girl only
Briar - I think it's ugly. better g than b, but the existence of Brian legitimizes it as a b name
Winter - sounds malevolent to me. I might get used to it. Better g than b
Forest - nerdy, but I think likeable - I like for b much more than g but it's unisex
Sky - I like Skye for a gal. Sky on a guy is alright, tho better if a nick for Schuyler / Skyler. Sky for g as a nick for Skylar. I'm picky
Ash - boring and not naturey IMO. Either
Juniper - I find it very annoying and unappealing. Seems like a gal name.
Rain - I feel like it is too much of a "falling" image, too melancholic or "inward", to be a good name. Rayne or Reign is better (e). Rain seems more girl to me.

Rowan is good for a boy
Don't like the others
