It has an understated elegance. It's like Julia but less flashy.
I assume it's not popular because in English, it sounds like clod, and (unlike Sophia) the meaning seems negative to most people. Plus, I feel like the similar Claudine and Claudette have a dated-rural vibe similar to Arlene and Paulette; maybe that's appealing to some people, but I don't know about the masses. Maybe also because there's no obvious NN.
I like Camila, Marta, and Paulina, which have a similar vibe to me.
