It has an understated elegance. It's like Julia but less flashy.I assume it's not popular because in English, it sounds like clod, and (unlike Sophia) the meaning seems negative to most people. Plus, I feel like the similar Claudine and Claudette have a dated-rural vibe similar to Arlene and Paulette; maybe that's appealing to some people, but I don't know about the masses.
