Margot is my favourite diminutive. Besides, I like it more than Margaret.
I know someone named this and she pronounces her name mar-GOTT. I prefer this pronunciation to the silent T.
Other diminutives I like are Greta, Gretel, Retha, Rita, Megan, May, Mamie and Maisie.

Your mar-GOTT version is, to my knowledge, standard in the Netherlands. And the G, of course, is a guttural.
