It was my maternal grandmothers name. She never liked it and neither did I much, even though I loved that woman dearly! Now, I’ve got to say, it’s really growing on me and I love the meanings. We thought about using it for our DD, but since our boys weren’t named for anyway, we didn’t want to rock the boat with certain family members. We chose an A mn instead, as our way of honouring my maternal gran and my DH’s maternal gran who also has an A name.

Wasn't there an Alma thread a while ago? I remember saying that to me it was a Crimean War battle and, named after the battle, a busy road. It looks OK, sounds OK; somewhat reminiscent of Alice and Emma, and sounds fine too. I wouldn't use it, but I wouldn't mind meeting one at all.
