I am sorry, but the first thing I thought of was a pig for some reason.

I think it would make an excellent name for a pig.

For a girl, not so much. "peg" just isn't an attractive sound. I also dislike Peg and Peggy.

And the dated -een doesn't really improve things.

I don't enjoy the -een ending, but Pegeen seems much fresher and more interesting than Maureen.
