Sylvia vs. Patricia
My two grandmothers. Which would you choose, and why?Bonus challenge: they were both born in the early 1930's. Based on that information, what do you think their middle names were/are? **After supposedly dying on January 30, 2007 after eating tainted pancakes, she returned several times as an angel and was revealed to be alive on May 17, 2011. )**

Patricia would be lovely if it could stay unchanged. All the Pat, Trish etc nns put me right off. So, I'd go for Sylvia.

SylviaI love the name Sylvia because of a few namesakes. Patricia is pretty but reminds me too much of the word "patrician."Maybe Sylvia Ann, Patricia Lynn, Patricia Mary, Patricia Christine. Not my guess but Sylvia Patrice and Patricia Sylvaine are lovely.

Love Sylvia, don’t care for Patricia at all. I’m going to guess Sylvia Ruth and Patricia Helen.

Sylvia! But I like both. I know this is not a popular opinion here, but I think Patty and Patsy are really cute. Also, your grandmothers had much nicer names than mine: Mildred and Blossom. Oy.Middle names I'd guess something like Mary or Louise or Anna.

Their full names are...Sylvia Loraine and Patricia Marcelaine.

Patricia Marcelaine is fantastic! I think there's a name nerd in your family tree.

Her French Canadian father named her. I think he wanted a middle name derivative of Marceline. And he named her Patricia after himself (he was Patrick).

Patricia Marcelaine is nice enough, though Sylvia Lorraine has a good ring to it.

My pick would have to go to Sylvia. Not because it happens to be the name of one of my nieces, but because I've always found it elegant and classy. A time-honored name that's suited to all ages and a variety of backgrounds. Patricia on the other hand I don't mind, but it's definitely more on the dated side.

None of them are all that attractive but I’d say it depends how I’m feeling.Right now I’m saying Sylvia.

Sylvia no question. I find the name Patricia ugly. Sylvia, while dated, is a darling name.

SylviaIt's graceful in a dreamy, comforting way. Patricia is so drab. It's also one of my grandmother's names, but she can't stand it, so she goes by her middle name, Wendy.

Sylvia! It's just so much prettierAs for her middle...Edith? Margaret?

Sylvia, because it's prettier. I also dislike the nn Patty.

Sylvia, but both would be good mn

I wish I could spell it Silvia.I would pick Patricia for myself and go by Trish but for a baby born today I'd go for Sylvia as it feels more current and avoid anyone calling my baby Patty.Sylvia Mary and Patricia Joan?

Much prefer Sylvia, it feels more timeless.

Sylvia - it's pretty and along modern tastes. It has nice nicknames in Syl and Sylvie.Patricia - feels more dated and has uglier sounds imo, plus I hate the nicknames Pat and Patty (they're so ugly!)
Middle name guess: Sylvia JoycePatricia Jean

Sylvia, because it reminds me of a silver locket with a hidden message. (Yeah, I'm being overdramatic)Patricia Margaret
Sylvia Iris

I like both but I like Patricia the most. I like the sound and spelling.
Edit: Also I like Fat Patricia (Fat Amy)

Definitely Sylvia! I love the meaning and overall feel of the name. Elegant, strong, beautiful, and a little ethereal. Patricia is a bit of a meme in something I watch, so I can't quite take it seriously. For middles I'd guess something straddling classic, dated, and vintage. Maybe Sylvia Anne and Patricia Jean.

Patricia. I just love the way Patricia sounds, personally. It's pretty and uncommon nowadays. My guess on the middle names are Louise, Ann(e), Christine, Marie, Mary, Elizabeth, Eloise, Ellen, Grace.

I'd choose Sylvia in a flash! An old favourite. My guess on middle names..... Joan? Rose? Ann? Frances?

I'd guess one is Ann/Anne and the other maybe MaeMay? Also-rans might be Jean or Jane and maybe Marie or Louise?I like them both. I think Patricia is a little bit brighter and more cheerful, and if you want nns, there's a good few. Sylvia is pretty, but the only nn I see is Sylvie, which feels weak to me.So I think I'd choose Patricia, and if I wanted a nn, it would be Tricia.

The Sylvia I grew up with went by Syl.
