Honestly, I thought it was purely feminine. It's a family name so I associate it with a close family member (who is female). It wasn't her real name, but she chose it because she didn't like her real name -
Wilhelmina.
Personally, I prefer
Wilhelmina if only because you can get
Billie from it.
Marion could become either
Marie (preferred) or
Mary, but clearly she preferred just
Marion.
