I like it because of the LOTR reference and its made up meaning is very pretty. If it didn't have that, I would probably find this name awkward and my least favourite spelling of Eleanor. It almost looks like it should be said "eh-LAY-ner", but I say it exactly like Eleanor (like "Ellen-or"). I don't mind it.

I don't think *most* people would get the LOTR connection, but I also don't think most would think it's a misspelling. Eleanor is spelled so many ways to begin with (that's one of the cool things about it).

I don't like it or any of the eleanore, Lenore, Nora names

My sibling’s name used to be Elanor. I think it’s beautiful, and definitely usable (they had no problems with it other than gender identity!). It was a recognised spelling of Eleanor before Tolkien, so whether or not people get the reference they won’t really be funny about it.

I think in America, Elanor and Eleanor will be pronounced the same, but from where I'm from, Elanor would be "EHL-u-nawr" and Eleanor would be "EH-leh-nawr."

I thought it was just an alt version of Eleanor (so ELL-lah-nor). People might get the reference if they see the spelling, but its basically Eleanor. Even if they do recognise the spelling, they probably won't know it was made up for the books.

I like both Elanor and Eleanor. I prefer Eleanor, but I don't mind Elanor's spelling

The funny part about it, when I was first trying to look up the name Eleanor, I originally misspelt it was E-L-A-N-O-R. But eventually I got used to it as E-L-E-A-N-O-R. I definitely prefer Eleanor because for some reason Elanor looks misspelled, but I do like the meaning and I think it could work as a middle name.

To me there is little to no different in the pronunciations.

At first glance, it just looks misspelled to me. Too close to the original to look accidental.
