Pearce / Pierce ?
Replies
I don't normally comment negatives, but this is one of my all time least favourite names ever. My opinion should not cloud anyone else's, but I really, really, really dislike it, it's one of the few names I'd call 'ugly'. It makes me cringe, even physically, makes me almost nauseous. I just absolutely hate it. Through personal association and the weird nuances of memory, it viscerally makes me think of the smell of thick, rolling layers B.O. and conjures the image of an incel / "neckbeard" who is one bad day at the office short of making national news.
If any of you reading this are called Pearce / Pierce, like the name or have used it for your children, please don't take this as an attack on your name choices or personal character. Different people have different tastes and associations and someone told me that my own name (Susanna) makes them think of fussy, precious, high-maintenance, b!tchy women (and I could almost see it too, haha). Someone else might find your name beautiful. And you know, maybe if I ever meet someone called Pearce who is the nicest person, it may shift the perception I have somewhat. Ultimately, I find the name awful, but it's just me, please don't be upset, and I could always... not like it... but warm to it one day...stranger things have happened.
FWIW, I say Pierce and Pearce the same. I say Piers slightly differently but really almost the same. Everyone I know in the UK says them where there's not much difference. I also very, very strongly dislike Piers. It's all much of a muchness.

I pronounce them the same way. How are you saying them differently? (I'm curious, hope that doesn't sound snotty.)
My very favorite spellings are Piers and Pearse, both with "s" sounds on the end. :0)

I prefer Piers myself, to me it looks less busy
