Um...so my cousin is having a baby girl. They're huge Hockey fans, so they chose the name Hockey. I hate this name so much, and I hope they dont actually name their daughter Hockey. Their other option is Faith Marie, and I like that waaaaay more than Hockey. What are your opinions? They're asking.

Slightly better than Fuel.Still dumb. Faith Marie is better.Yes, I met a little boy named Fuel. His dad was a "motorhead" according to his grandma. His siblings were James and Lydia. I also know a writer named her kid Evidence. Your kid very well not share your interests.

Hockey just screams trying too hard! Here is a list of Olympic Women's Ice Hockey names that I found. Maybe they can find a players name they like.Sara DeCosta

They've read the list, and now they like Sarah Brianne, so...I think that's better than Faith Marie.Oh, and of course anything is better than Hockey.

Great! Yes anything is better than Hockey! But I'm glad I could help out some, even if they don't go with any of the names, they at least have other options! Sarah Brianne is better than Hockey. Sarah isn't my cup of tea personally! But I do like Brianne!

not sure I believe this ...It's just a good thing their favorite sports isn't basketball.
Hockey is also slang for manure. As in horse hockey.

It makes them look like they don't actually know anything about hockey.A historian wouldn't name their kid "History". A cinephile wouldn't name their kid "Movie". They'd pick something with more nuance and meaning. Picking "HOCKEY" makes it sound like they just landed on earth.

True. I have a cousin who was named after a golfer; it's dull to think about her being named Golf instead - no story there.

Advise them to drop either Faith or Marie (both overdone currently) and use Hockey as a mn. It will spare their daughter and themselves a lifetime of embarrassment.Faith Hockey

It rings as a "in utero name", just a silly nickname to call the baby by until it's born and has a proper name. Faith Marie is sweet.

With all the respect, Hockey can't be a forename. The word "hockey" was born to indicate a sport, not to be used as a baby name.
I think the little Hockey would be joked at any time of her life, and maybe will change her name when she will grow up. So, for their daughter's serenity and happiness with herself and her family, they shouldn't name her Hockey. Also, in some countries the registry offices are really severe and would reject Hockey.

I wonder if they're joking?? It'd be a good way to avoid criticism of the real name choice (eg. everyone will beg for them to use Faith, because it's not Hockey).If not...Hockey is certainly unique, and she could go by Kiki if she hated it...Faith Marie is kind of boring but ok. I like Marie more as a FN.

I hope you'll tell them what I said anyway. Since they asked.
Also, perhaps the parents should each introduce themselves to strangers as Hockey a few times, to make sure it's as great as they think.

Yep, I will, definitely. Their other daughter is named Jada Nicole, and I really like that name. Hockey and Jada just don't fit...

Hockey is terrible. The sound is bad, the look is bad, and also shoving your own interests onto your kid in such a blatant way is bad parenting.Faith Marie is simple and sweet. I like it.
