Hera is pretty and elegant. I agree that
Hera is somewhat controversial, but the worst things that happened to the women that
Zeus targeted were done by
Zeus, who turned
Io into a cow, ate
Metis (
Athena's mother), and raped many others. When I compare
Hera's misdeeds to nearly every other god and goddess, she seems like one of the better sorts. Since the Greek and
Roman gods were not omniscient, I wonder if
Hera just struggled to differentiate between the women who were assaulted by
Zeus and the women who had no qualms about sleeping with a married guy? She seemed like a more reliable patroness of heroes like
Jason and was more steadfast in her support of the Greeks. She was vengeful and simultaneously loyal and giving.
Hera,
Hades, and
Poseidon did successfully rebel against
Zeus at one point and held him captive until he swore to be a better ruler, but it did take all three of them. I have a head canon that Greek myths about the gods affairs came to an end because
Hera finally got fed up and dethroned
Zeus and imprisoned him somewhere for everyone's benefit.
Hera currently rules of Olympus and has the gods leave humans alone so long as we leave them alone.
Hera and
Rhea would make a cute sibling set.
