It seems overkill as a NN for Darlene. I think it's possible that they're both derived from 'darling' independently.My mom is called Darlene. I think it's sweet but dated and not in a way that will make a mainstream comeback.
The only being I've met named Darla was a chihuahua. I hesitate to like it for a human because of how well it fit.I'd pair them with something youthful/current sounding, that's maybe also sweet and/or a little goofy.Darlene Lorelei / Lorelei Darlene
