He is about 12 and goes by Howie. It's cute.

I know a Howard he's around 20 now. I don't dislike it but I don't hate it either, the names that make me think great-grandad names like Howard, Walter & Stanley are definatley coming back. (I wanted to use Stanley for my youngest but my hubby didn't like it).

I know exactly one Howard, who is well into his 80s by now, I would guess; married to a senior in-law. He's a pleasant enough guy. But the name just does not appeal at all: stodgy in full, and it only shortens to Howie, which is pretty darn awful.

I love Ian and Graham; especially Ian! I would have used it for my son, but my SIL had just divorced a very nice Ian, so for the sake of family peace, I didn't. But, my husband's fn is a family one but really dated and unappealing, so he's always gone by his mn. Could you do the same with Howard - have it as an opener but use one of the others?

I honestly think it’s one of the ugliest names out there.
It could also have to do with a very bad name association, but it easily tops my least favorite lists. I don’t care for the sound, at all.

I like it as a middle name with just the right first name to balance out the gritty retro sound and feel.
